SEO Strategies That Are Not Effective – Part One

As a business owner, you know how important it is to keep ahead of the turning tides and have the ability to quickly adapt. It seems that trends and tastes can change by the minute and if you don’t keep up, you could easily be left in the dust.

Additionally, it seems that strategies that have been effective for years, even decades, just don’t work anymore. This is due to technology advances and changes in consumer trends.

We all need to change with those shifting trends, especially when it comes to marketing. Older SEO and marketing strategies are just not as effective, and will not bring in the results they used to. Here are some SEO strategies that just aren’t effectual anymore and ways you can make the shift toward more efficient SEO.

Keyword Cramming

In the past, one of the easiest methods to raise SEO efforts was to flood content with keywords. Often this would result in choppy, difficult to read content.

With recent updates, search engines no longer simply search for keywords and now search for the most common phrases/words, combines them and then identifies them as keywords.

Currently you don’t have to write for the search engine; nor do you have to cram your content full of keywords. Now you can actually write for your readers and integrate keywords organically. You can actually deliver content that your readers and customers are looking for and your high-quality content will also drive increased traffic to your site.

Don’t Assume that a High Rank Will Mean More Traffic

You probably assume that the high rank the more traffic you will receive. This is not always true. While your SEO efforts can result in high rankings, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get those important click-throughs.

So how do you get that high ranking and still draw your targeted traffic? The first step is to understand how to use your keywords. Research your market and build your content strategy around effective keywords. Second, write appealing meta descriptions. While you don’t need to be afraid of using keywords; however, due to the short space of these descriptions it’s important that you show readers why they should read your content and how it separates you from the other search results.

In Part Two, we will examine two more SEO strategies that should go to the wayside. In the meantime, if you have any questions or want to explore a new website for your business, please contact us!
